Enjoy the Magic of the Season
Chamber Musings
December 17, 2011
Last evening as I drove around the square, I was struck with how beautiful it looked. So, many times when we around a place every day we tend to take them for granted and over look what we have right in our own home territory. Many of the merchants have wonderful Christmas Cards in their windows. Those that do not have cards, have beautiful displays in their windows. The Allen County Historical Society has a very magical quality to it. It actually looks three dimensional.
There are several opportunities for one to get out and enjoy the magic of the season. The Gingerbread Walk is still an on going contest it ends the 31st. Santa is in his house for the last time on Thursday the 22nd from 5-7 p.m. Tara Gardens will be hosting with hot chocolate and cookies for Santa’s visitors. The free PSI Trolley rides to see the lights will depart from Santa’s house for the last time this season on the 22nd and the Kiwanis Train will be running again for the last time this season.
This weekend on the 16th and 17th from 7-9 p.m. the Allen County Historical Society will be hosting Holiday Open House/Fund Raiser. There will be milk and cookies and you can tour the main museum to look at the beautifully decorated trees. Then tour The Boyhood Home of Major General Funston which is decorated as a 1880s Victorian Farm House for the holidays. The Modern Woodman of America is doubling every donation made on the two nights so be sure to put it on your to do list. They have a special treat as the ACHS will be giving away the electric train set that is on display in the front window! It will be given to one child age 13 and under who comes in and tours the museum before closing for the Holidays on December 22nd. While you are downtown you might as well do some shopping and grab a bite to eat.
On Christmas Eve morning the Jingle Bell Jog 3K/5K will be starting at the bandstand at 7:45 a.m. This is yet another great way to see the sights and you get the benefit of a great work out while participating. I have just given you several examples of why you don’t take want to take what you have for granted. Take sometime and enjoy all the actives and beauty that Iola and Allen County have to offer.
